In 2009, Eileen Patrick agreed to run the NYC Marathon in honor of ZARA'S CENTER with the hope of raising at least $30,000 to ensure the long term viability of a program that provides critical services to AIDS-impacted youth in Zimbabwe.
Eileen has an amazing personal story that made her commitment to Run for ZARA'S even more incredible. At the age of 38, she ran her first Marathon in 3 hours and 13 minutes. Just three years later, this April, she finished the London Marathon first in her age group in 2 hours and 53 minutes. Eileen’s goal is to break 2:50, over the next 2 years, in order to compete in the 2011 Olympic Trials.
With the official blessing of the NYC Marathon, Eileen and five other runners sought outside sponsorship for their 2009 run in order to 1) purchase a trust for Zara’s Center from The Palm Oil Project, sponsored by All for Africa, and 2) purchase a permanent new home for Zara's.
ON NOVEMBER 1 AT THE 2009 ING NEW YORK CITY MARATHON, EILEEN EXCEEDED HER PERSONAL GOAL OF RAISING $30,000 FOR ZARA'S CENTER. LEADING A TEAM OF FIVE OTHER RUNNERS, THEIR COMBINED TOTAL WAS OVER $100,000.
