Zara's Center is a model respite program for AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, that was co-founded by Rachael Goldwasser Plutzik and Lesley Goldwasser. The PG Family Foundation provides ongoing support for ZARA'S CENTER.
Zara's Center provides nourishment, academic enrichment, medical care, work training, recreation, cultural and artistic development to hundreds of children in community-based and home-centered initiatives.
Zara's Center opened its doors in 2006 and quickly became a respite for 400 children. Over the years, due to economic and political challenges, Zara's moved its programs into communities, and now shares facilities with a church partner. Over the next few months, Zara's will be moving into a new, permanent home.
Zara's Center International Board of Directors has set a three-year goal of acquiring land and space in order to grow and refine programs - to meet the needs of children impacted by AIDS, in Bulawayo, and in other communities throughout Zimbabwe.

"I have a great deal of pride sharing with all of you that, together with the support of my friends and family, we were able to open ZARA'S CENTER, to nurture children impacted by AIDS in Zimbabwe. With incidents of AIDS increasing, it's more than clear, that our work has only just begun. We must now ensure ZARA's future." Rachael Goldwasser Plutzik, (Jan 2009)
